## General Principles
- You are expected to follow the same exact rules that users follow.
- Be a part of the community. Interact with other people as a regular member.
- Set a good example of how the community should interact with each other.
- Don't blindly enforce the rules. Research the context before taking action.
- Avoid actions when possible. Think about whether the infraction is worth a verbal warning before escalating. Verbal warnings can be done in chat or a friendly DM, reminding them of the rules.
- Take note of verbal warnings. This helps to form a general vibe for their behavior and determine if escalation is needed for repeat offenses.
- Use de-escalation for heated members or discussions. Avoid muting unless absolutely necessary to get the conversation to move on or for them to ideally calm down.
By following these principles, we can shape the community into a better and more comfortable environment.
## Infractions
Infractions are either **Tier 1**, **Tier 2**, **Tier 3** or **Severe** (instant ban).
**Inactive** will be banned after **4 points**.
**Active** will be banned after **6 points**.
A user is considered active if they meet one of these criteria:
- Their first join was over 3 months ago and sent 2000 messages in the last 3 months.
- Their first join was between 2 weeks and 3 months ago and sent 500 messages.
- Their first join was less than 2 weeks ago.
- They are VIP.
To find their first join, search for `mentions:username in:welcome` and sort by oldest message.
Admins can choose to issue **Tier 1**/**Tier 2**/**Tier 3**/**Severe** points based on vibe, but this is typically left to inactive or new users. This means users who have off vibes and feel unfit for the community can be given extra points if necessary.
**It’s not always too late to issue an infraction.**
The time frame should generally be within 10 hours, as any later would reflect poorly on the team. The obvious exception to this is ToS-breaking content, which can be handled after any point.
## Escalation
Escalation depends on the severity of the violation. Start at the smallest fitting punishment; we should aim to curb bad behavior, not work toward kicking people out. Sometimes skipping a step is necessary.
Whether or not a tier applies to a verbal warning is up to moderator discretion.
Steps:
1. Verbal warning (in chat or DMs)
2. Bot warning
3. Mute
4. Ban
## Examples
These are examples of starting infractions. Depending on the user's history, the infraction may start higher, like with repeat behavior.
Verbal:
- **(Rule 1/5)** Someone reposts an image of Neuro saying something NSFW. It's in `#livestream-chat` or anywhere else and chat has moved on from it.
- **(Rule 2/5)** Someone says Vedal and Anny will make a new daughter, adding anything else to make sexual implications.
- **(Rule 4)** Someone brings up the Ukraine war.
- **(Rule 6)** Someone sends a large block of text that feels like spam.
- **(Rule 7)** Someone pings Vedal without a question and no surrounding context to make the ping relevant.
- **(Rule 11)** Someone is speaking non-English.
- **(Rule N/A)** Someone is encouraging weird behavior by replying "based" to a weird rule-breaking comment about Neuro.
Mute:
- **(Rule 6)** Someone sends several large blocks of text that isn't relevant. If they are new, escalate to a ban.
- **(Rule 4)** Someone has a profile picture of the Hammer and Sickle.
Ban:
- **(TOS)** Someone has a profile picture of porn.
## Additional Notes
- Don't leak anything from staff channels, especially relating to moderation actions.
- Dyno will send a ban appeal form link to the user 24 hours after they're banned.
- Avoid discussing bans in DMs.
- Avoid welfare mutes. An exception to this might be a drunk user breaking some minor rules in a short time.
- Unlock \#livestream-chat if ~10 minutes have passed of Vedal being live on another stream and talking.
## How to handle...
**Users bringing up a ban**
See if rule 8 ("Be positive") or rule 9 ("Respect the mods") applies. If someone in a ticket asks about a ban appeal, direct them to inform the user to submit a Dyno appeal if they haven't already, and/or politely decline to give any information regarding the status of their ban.
**Users going off-topic**
If people are off-topic for an extended period of time and after a verbal warning in chat, apply rule 10 ("Stay on topic").
**Tickets**
See below for command usage examples. Be respectful and mindful of professionality in your responses. What you say may reflect on Vedal and Neuro-sama. Keep the number of moderators replying to a single ticket to a minimum.
**Ban appeals**
Give your thoughts on any ban appeals that come in - extra information and vibes are especially helpful for admins, as they make the final decision.
